Voting

Voting must be the primary system for most major decisions in a Just Society. It is the best mechanism to balance competing interests while respecting all citizens and mitigating strife. It also provides the flexibility required for policy to adapt to the ever-changing world. However, properly implementing voting is complex and, like all human systems, inevitably imperfect.

Of particular concern is who can vote, and for what. Voting requires knowledge, maturity, strength, and wisdom which, while encouraged by a Just Society, will never be universally prevalent. There will always be overgrown children who must be excluded from voting, or their selfishness will destroy society. Conversely, there will always be a corrupt, elitest desire to eliminate the voice of the people from government so they can selfishly loot society. Both these dangers must be actively guarded against because they will always work to corrupt and destroy the Just Society they leech off of with their shortsighted selfishness.

Furthermore, while it is the duty of citizens to remain informed on critical issues, government is by its very nature too large and complex for ordinary people to be informed in all aspects. Issues of particular importance may be put to a general vote, but representatives are needed to give finer policy details the attention they require, with the advice of well-informed constituents. However, due to the danger of dishonest or corrupt representatives, their actions must be visible to the citizenry they are chosen from, and they must be subject to frequent elections where they can be freely replaced.

Of particular concern is the danger of cabals manipulating elections. There are of course an infinite variety of schemes which may be employed, not just simple election fraud and coercion, since any mortal rule can be dishonestly twisted towards evil ends. One of the most dangerous is restricting who can run in elections, excluding good people and creating a false dichotomy between corrupt elitists, giving the citizens a false choice of who will ruin them. It is also essential to remain wary of indirect schemes like aggressive smear or disinformation campaigns since evil people are always happy to lie in pursuit of their corrupt aims and weak men will fall in line with any lie they are bombarded with, although free speech will usually allow good people to triumph without the need for violence.

Of course, while the details of the system of voting will always be a subject of debate, there are some key Truths that can never be compromised. No vote, or any other mortal edict, can destroy a God-given right, and any attempt to do so is an evil which must be stopped by any means necessary. These Divine Laws must be held sacred as the highest pillar of mortal justice with robust laws to punish the evil people attempting to deny Him. However, since mortal systems are inherently imperfect, the people of a Just Society must be prepared to kill the wicked when the law inevitably falls short. After all, while all good men seek to follow the Truth God has gifted us through his prophets, we are only human. Only He is perfect, and all we mortals can do is try our best to cleave to His divine will as we struggle to adapt to this ever-changing world.
