Truth
God is Truth.
In many ways, truth is the highest goal we can strive for on Earth. Truth comes in many forms, be it small truths about people’s actions, big truths about the nature of the universe, or the ultimate Truth about the nature of Divinity. It may be impossible for us mere mortals to grasp the full Truth of the universe since only God in his infinite wisdom can know the Truth of all things, but since God is Truth, searching for truth brings us closer to God regardless of what truths we learn.
Truth bears many names, some of which are obvious at a casual glance and others less so. Anyone can recognize a recording as true, even if the wise know you must be wary of what context lies outside the scope of the recording, but grander truths are given their own names due to the difficult and error-prone process of unraveling them. The search for the truth of the universe, the quest to understand God’s tools of creation, is known as science, while the search for the truth of the divine is called religion. All of the infinite variety of truths are important, and all must be respected because to deny any facet of the truth is to deny God. That said, as finite beings we must recognize our own limitations and accept that we cannot do everything, forcing us to prioritize one aspect of truth at a time, but we must remember that all truths are an aspect of God and deserve our respect.
Those that seek the truth in all things raise themselves, those around them, and their society up, creating a better world for themselves and their children which makes it easier for everyone to reach Heaven. By embracing the truth, we open ourselves to reflect on our mortal failings, and that in turn gives us the insight and strength to overcome them.
In contrast, the evil hate truth because it shows good people who they really are. They may pretend to have truth on their side as they manipulate and mislead the innocent, but their corruption, delusion, and deception cannot survive the light of truth, and once it inevitably unravels their petty schemes, the truth lets good people bring them to justice. Thus, seeking the truth not only brings us closer to God, but also shields us from evil, both as individuals and societies, making it one of the most important pursuits of a Just Society.
